Bobcats shoot for road success in LA

Basketball Betting Lines

02/22/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Playing on the road hasn't been much fun for the Charlotte Bobcats, who will continue a four-game journey Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

The Bobcats are 7-20 as the guest this season, as opposed to their 20-7 record at home, and opened their current trek with Saturday's 93-88 loss at Milwaukee. Stephen Jackson ended with 35 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Bobcats, who were coming off an impressive 110-93 victory over LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

"We just used so much energy to get back that the last two minutes we ran out of gas," said Jackson, who has scored 20 points or more in nine of his last 11 games and is averaging 26.0 points in that span. "I know I did. They made their free throws."

Tyrus Thomas had 12 points and 11 boards, while Gerald Wallace and Boris Diaw each chipped in 11 points in a losing effort. The Bobcats are 24-18 over their last 42 games, after starting the season 3-9, and will also visit the Jazz and Grizzlies on the road swing.

Charlotte is also clinging to the eighth and final postseason spot in the East with a one-game edge over Milwaukee.

The Clippers finally won a game in the Kim Hughes era, posting a 99-89 triumph versus Sacramento on Saturday. Eric Gordon scored 14 of his season-high 30 points in the fourth quarter for Los Angeles, which is 1-1 on a four-game homestand and 15-12 as the host this season. It was the most points Gordon had scored since he posted 35 on March 7, 2009.

"I thought we played aggressive. Eric Gordon led us down the stretch," said Hughes, who had lost the first five games of his head coaching stint with the Clips. "I was pleased with our overall effort. I was not pleased with the 24 turnovers. I'm happy for the guys. They've been working hard."

Chris Kaman contributed 22 points and 16 rebounds to help LA snap a six-game slide and win for the second time in 12 tries. Clippers veteran guard Baron Davis missed his second straight game with a back injury and is questionable for tonight's contest.

Charlotte and Los Angeles are meeting for the first time since the Bobcats won the home-and-home series a year ago. The Bobcats have won four straight against the Clippers after losing the previous six encounters.

Football Betting: Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Bet on NFL Football

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.

Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.

Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.

All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.

A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
